London Hair transplant Clinics are among the most famous in the world. Stars like Wayne Roony and calum Best are reported to have undergone Hair restoration in London.

Introduction to transplants

Most of us fear aging and everything that comes with it. One of the notable features of aging is hair loss. However, unlike most features that are age related alone, baldness can also be as a result of a change in hormones, family history of baldness, burns and trauma. A rule of thumb about baldness is that the earlier it begins, the more severe it can get. However, baldness is not the end. Hair loss can be corrected through a reconstructive surgery treatment or what some of you call hair replacement. This is the only procedure to ensure that you bring back what it feels like to have a full or at least a fuller head of hair. Clinic locations United Kingdom, London, Turkey, Harley street.

History of hair transplant surgery

In 1939, a Japanese dermatologist Dr. Okuda published a revolutionary procedure in a Japanese medical journal detailing how you can use small grafts just the same way hair transplantation is done today. This method involved using hair transplant graft to correct hair lost from the eyebrow, the scalp and mustache areas. Unfortunately, this study did not have a major impact on the western hemisphere due to the interruptions of the World War II.

In 1952, Dr. Norman Orentreich performed the first hair transplant surgery for male baldness. Unfortunately, the medical community rejected the first few submissions of his paper and it was until 1959 when his landmark study was first published. He coined the term “donor dominance” which explained that the transplanted hair continues to display the same characteristics of the hair from where it was taken from. In short, what he meant is that a healthy hair harvested from the back or sides of the scalp and transplanted to the balding area will continue growing as if it still located at its original location. Thanks to science and technology, today, there are a number of hair replacements procedures.

Types of hair replacement procedures

1. Folicular Unit Hair Transplant/ FUT Procedure

This procedure has remained one of the most popular and successful hair transplant procedure for the longest time ever. This is because of the fact that it not only makes the hair look natural, but it also ensures that the hair functions in a natural manner. FUT procedure makes use of very high resolution stereo microscopes to help reduce the risk of hair damage which is popular with transplant done with the naked eye.

During the procedure, hair is transplanted in natural occurring follicular units. First of all, a donor strip from the hair bearing is removed and then it is dissected into smaller follicular units. These units are then subjected to harvesting methods similar to the natural appearance of the hair grafts. Thereafter, tiny sites are created using fine blades and needles in the balding area. This is done after the area has been numbed. The grafts are then inserted in those sites.

1. It can cover larger areas of baldness in just a few sittings

2. Resection rate is lower due to the high resolution microscopes in use. Even though this rate also depends with the Surgeon.

Folicular Hair Extraction/FUE Procedure

This procedure is more like FUT with the exception that in FUE, it does not need the removal of a complete strip of hair follicles. In fact, during this procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted from the back or the side of the head and grafted to the area that was balding. The rest of the procedure remains the same like in FUT.

1. No linear Scar

2. Recovery period is very fast in fact you can go back to your normal life the next day

3. Since the method does not involve taking an entire strip of scalp from the back of the head there are no cats or stitches.

Artas robotic transplant

This is a robotic method often used for minimally invasive hair transplantation. Unlike the regular methods, this system makes use of advanced algorithms to select the best hairs to use for the transplant. They are then harvested in a way which ensures that the donor site remains natural without stitches and linear scar. This system can work with men with both brown and black hair.

1. Increased level of accuracy

2. Reduced harvesting time

3. Easier extraction of grafts

4. Increased survival of harvested grafts

5. Computerized harvesting methods maximizes hair and minimizes wounding

6. Increased speed and accuracy at creating recipient sites

Punch harvesting

In this procedure, punched grafts are gently lifted with forceps and then they are placed on the donor sites which are closed with skin staples or sutures

An elongated strip is made on the donor site using a scalpel blade. The donor site is then dissected into grafts for transplantation

Strip harvesting

This is similar to excision with the exception that in strip harvesting two or more scalpel blades are erected in parallel to cut strips of the donor tissue.

Duration of treatment

It is estimated that a typical session of 1,500 to 3,000 grafts can take almost the entire day of surgery in an outpatient basis. Most patients who arrive in the morning have their procedure completed in the late afternoon.

Typical Costs across Europe

The cost of hair transplant is largely dependent on a number of factors such as:

· The amount of hair you lost so far

· Amount of donor hair available

· Characteristics of the donor hair( color, texture, curl)

· Your desired results

However, on average these costs vary from different places in Europe. In the UK, the price can range between £2 and £5 per graft, in Turkey 2.50 Euro to 5.0 per graft , in Greece $1.5 per graft and in Hungary €3.95 per follicular extraction.

Side effects

Just like any other kind of surgery, hair transplant has a number of risks too. Some of them include bleeding and infection. There are also chances of unnatural-looking new hair growth and scarring. Around the time the new hair starts to grow, some people also have inflammation or get infection of the hair follicles also called foliculties. This can be treated with antibiotics though. You are also likely to lose the transplanted hair also called shock loss though most of these transplants are not permanent.
